This monastery is very symbolic as it was constructed in 961 AD at an altitude of 961 meters, and once also had 961 monks. It is considered to be historical monument of Greece as it was here where the call for "freedom or death" first rang in 1821 by the Greek against Turks. Aside from the legendary banner, some collections of crosses made from precious stones and other religious items are kept here. (Kalavrita, Greece / 2009)
